Experience:I started flying rockets at the age of 11, when my father brought home a couple rockets from one of his business trips for my brother and myself. From that day until I was 17, (and girls took over my life), I built and flew hundreds of rockets. Before I stopped, I had a fleet of over 40 rockets that I flew several times over, of which 3/4's of them were scratched built. I had actually made it to level 3, of 5 levels in the then Estes rocketry experience levels. I didn't go any higher than that because I just decided to have fun and build and fly rockets instead competing further. I got back into rockets again in 1997 when my brother-in-law showed me an Aerotech Initiator starter kit, which I immediately had to buy. I then flew several rockets in several different school fields until found a local rocket club in 2000 to join. Upon joining that club I also became involved with my first big launch with NYPOWER 2000. I was also involved with being a part of the officership of that club from almost day one too. I have been involved with running a club and being a part of several NYPOWER's, including running 02 and X, up until the end of 2003. At that time, an excellent group of fellow members and myself decided to form a new Organization and find a bigger and better field. We did that with the formation of the Potter Youth Rocketry Organization, and with this great organization, my experience will continue to grow.
Goals for the Organization:It is my goal to help youths and youth groups from all walks of life learn to do better in school, and in life, though the fun hobby of rocketry. I would like to see this organization grow into a group of great fellow rocketeers who will help us achieve these goals, and to have a fun, and relaxed time doing this. I feel that there is nothing greater than seeing the eyes of a kid light up upon pushing the button of their first rocket being launched. I hope that all of you great fellow rocketeers will come out to help us to help the kids do this.

Experience:My experience started back in 1978. I started flying Estes model rockets with my dad. I built and flew many rockets of the same size but never exceeded a D engine in impulse for many years. I remember the first time I decided to play with modifying a rocket. I had a Columbia Space Shuttle. It was about an eight inches long and naked. I bored a hole in the back, mounted a motor mount tube, and stuck a D12 Estes engine in it. My neighbor was impressed as it flew by his house horizontally. That wasnt the plan, but it sparked pure interest in the hobby for me. Like many, I dropped the hobby after high school and was reborn into it many years later. I now have level 3 certification by the NAR and have flown to 7200.
Goals for the Organization:When in middle and high school, I struggled to see any application that I could apply to what I was learning. It seemed senseless to even try to learn some of it. The math was pointless, science was pointless. Think about it. When was I ever going to have beaker and chemicals at home? Why would I ever want to learn how to calculate the area on something? Well, after getting back into hobby rockets again some time after school, I realized, I wasnt the only one in that boat. After becoming knowledgeable enough to enter schools with what I learned, and after taking another club to success from failure, I felt it necessary to approach rocketry from a different angle. I felt it was a duty to enrich the educational experience of kids into WANTING to learn. Not forcing them to learn. My goal is to spread that enthusiasm and desire to learn into our youth with this organization. I feel our organization could be used as a powerful tool to enrich the education of our next generation. Luckily, I am not the only one who feels this way. We can make a difference. We will.

Experience:I have been fascinated by aerospace for as long as I can remember. As a child, I enjoyed going to the Smithsonian, Glenn H Curtis Museum, and Kennedy Space center. I enjoy building models, designing my own, and yes occasionally flying them. I spent many years in the Boy Scouts of America. I served in many capacities ranging from simple membership as a Tiger Cub, on to Eagle Scout, and eventually a member of the Finger Lakes Council Executive Board. Through it all, I was able to experience the many successes and failures of leadership and organizational management. Always learning something along the way. I hope I can put these skills to good use and contribute to creating a safe and exciting environment.
Goals for the Organization: I've been involved with PYRO since the beginning and look forward to it's future. My goals for improving the organization center around communication and progression.

Communication is the most important part of administration in any club, organization, business. Without a solid communication backbone, we can never hope to accomplish anything. I maintain both the website, and membership roster. Both are vital in communication. The Website has many features built into it so any member can know anything about what is going on --- up to the minute. This is accomplished by features such as the Forums, Schedule, Mass e-mails, etc. If anyone wants to inquire about something which is not posted, they can either e-mail the BOD, or post a question in the forums.

Communication is also important when it comes to other aspects as well. PYRO has a solid base of experienced fliers. Collectively they know almost everything about Model Rocketry. Anything they don't know, they have resources to find out the answers. This is a extremely important attribute and a invaluable resource. Without communication among the membership though, this can never be fully tapped. Through my efforts I hope to increase the availability of all our knowledge and skills.

My other goal is progression. I do not want to see PYRO get stuck in a rut. I want to see it grow and flourish. The founders of PYRO designed it to focus on youth education and awareness. To appeal to youth we must stay current with the times. To do this we need to communicate with each other and be aware of new ideas and technologies. We must always think of ways to improve, and be flexible. "just because it has always been that way, it doesn't mean it is the best way."

I enjoy being a part of PYRO.
